Recycled Island

CAn you imagine living on a island similar in size to hawaii, only instead of being made by a volcano... it is actually made from recycled plastic that has been floating in the ocean for years. There is a currant proposal out that is working to make this island a reality. I read about it in a dive magazine that directed me to http://recycledisland.com to find out more. I think its a great idea. the island is designed to be completely self sufficient. There will be an urban center and the rest will be agriculture based. Its energy will come from the sun and waves. The island is thought to be created in the pacific where the highest concentration of plastic is. It would float approximately between hawaii and san francisco. The web sight does not say much about the threats of hurricanes, which to me seems like the biggest down fall to a floating island. But because it is floating in the middle of the ocean... tsunamis should never me an issue. I wonder if they would have an emergency boat of some sort that could drag the island out of the path of a hurricane, but then i dont know. It is still in its beginning stages, but i have been inspired my the idea. I think it would be an awesome place to live.

Split Rock

I love cactuses! In my tiny little apartment i have a pot with four different cactuses growing in it. This morning i woke to find my favorite one, the split rock, completely withered up. I immediately gave it more water. Then i looked on line and realized i had actually over watered. it. I am very sad, it was so cute. I'm hoping that if i leave it maybe it will grow back... We will see I'm leaving for the weekend today so at least i'll get away from it. Im also wondering if its not getting enough sunlight in this foggy city. The flowers  on one of my other cactuses are no longer blooming... Its so sad. Maybe i would have been better off with an orchid... I just didn't want it to die when i go home for winter and summer breaks, but apparently cactuses can die overnight =(
